We’ve received a few calls this week from concerned customers asking whether they need to send iDNS money to renew their domain name registration. Then we received one for one of our domains today as well. The answer is emphatically, “NO!”.
We at iSTAM consider this a scam for a couple of reasons. First off, they try to manipulate the language they use, and the form to make it seem like they are your current registrar, and that if you do not pay them, your domain will expire and you will loose access to it.
Presumably, if you went online and paid them, they may actually be able to transfer your domain, from your current registrar to them. However, they also include a mail in option, after which there would need to be a whole process of approvals and collecting Auth Codes, ect. to actually transfer the domain. I also assume that if you don’t follow through with all those steps, they will happily just keep your money for nothing.
Secondly, their price starts at $45/domain/year. This rate is nearly double industry standards and is reminiscent of the original “Network Solutions” pricing back in the 90’s.
So don’t fall for this scam (unless you already have and they are actually your registrar), and don’t send them money! If you are an iSAFE client we manage all your domain registrations as a part of your on-going package.
